West Grove governors
West Grove governors
School governors have a legal responsibility to promote high standards of educational achievement. Governing bodies have three key roles:
- setting strategic direction
- ensuring accountability
- monitoring and evaluation
The Education Acts give governors key principles, in regulations and guidance. Governors are not involved in the day-to-day management of the school.
You may find this link useful which explains what being a governor involves.
If you wish to contact any governor directly, you can do so via the school email office@westgrove.enfield.sch.uk or you can leave a letter at the office and it will be forwarded on.

My name is Nuala McNeely, I recently joined the West Grove governing body as a co-opted governor. I have over 15 years’ experience of governance ranging from staff to Headteacher governor. I have also been fortunate enough to be part of the management committee for an Initial Teacher Training provider, as a headteacher representative and also have experience of undertaking the chair persons’ role for a period of time.
I recently retired from a primary headteacher role having spent over 15 years in various senior leader roles. In my early career I taught in most year groups across the primary school age range of EYFS to Year 6. My experience during my career includes Developing Early Reading, Assessment lead, Lead Designated Safeguarding, SENco, Leading CPD for ECTS and support staff as well as teachers, developing middle leaders, Leading teams and finance.
As part of the West Grove Governance Team I will dedicate my time to ensuring the pupils receive the best education possible. I believe that by continually improving the quality of the teaching and learning experience for our children, we will strive to create an environment where all pupils can achieve their full potential.
Natasha Matthews – LA Governor (Vice Chair of Governors)
I was appointed as the local authority governor for West Grove Primary school in March 2021. My areas of responsibility are: -Anti-bullying; staff and pupil welfare -Assessment in Early Years, KS1 & KS2 I have an extensive background in education and arts leadership for over seventeen years and I have worked in the boroughs of Haringey, Brent, Enfield and internationally in Guangzhou, China.
I am a strong advocate in incorporating arts practices to support and develop the quality of teaching and learning and the confidence and engagement of children in progressing in education and their personal aspirations. I have a Masters in Education (teaching & learning) and in my leadership capacity, I have led on whole school curriculum development and led on whole school English and inclusion.
Presently, I work as an education consultant specialising in curriculum development.
Emma Jenkins – Co-opted Governor
My background is in Primary education. I have been a class teacher of children from Nursery to year 6, assistant head, head of school, Teaching and Learning consultant for a local authority, and am currently teaching on a PGCE course where I am the lead tutor for ‘professional studies’. This covers a range of areas such as assessment, behaviour, curriculum design, mental health and well-being for children, educational theory and meeting the needs of children with SEND and EAL.
I am committed to ensuring the very highest of expectations and provision for every child, in all aspects of their school experience, from pastoral care to academic progress and attainment. I believe this is achieved through excellent teacher development, robust planning and assessment procedures and a creative, inclusive and aspirational curriculum. I am very excited to be part of the development of this great school.
Georgina Eracleous – Staff Governor
My name is Georgina Eracleous, or some of you may know me as Miss Eracleous, the teacher who loves penguins! I joined West Grove in September 2016 as a Reception teacher and have remained in that role ever since. I have a strong passion for teaching, in particular for Early Years. This is where I get to help young children begin their school journey in an environment where they feel safe and secure, but also set the foundations for a love of learning.
Since joining the school, I have always had a keen interest in knowing more about how the school operates behind closed doors. So, when the opportunity presented itself to become a teacher governor at a time where many changes were taking place, I had to become involved.
I feel as if over the years at West Grove I have built firm relationships with pupils, staff and parents. I enjoy working with people and sharing ideas with other professionals to help make our school even greater than it already is.
Tom Yeo – Co-opted Governor
My role includes that of Health and Safety; I keep an eye on fire drills, trip hazards etc. I also enjoy appearing at West Grove in my various alter egos such as Major Tom (a long-lost astronaut) and Tom of Glebe (a Tudor gentleman) It is a privilege to be involved in such a good school, although it is frustrating at the moment because the pandemic makes it impossible to visit the school.
Susan Mehmet – Co-opted Governor
During my teaching career I have been a Governor in two schools. In 2002 I became ICT Adviser for London Borough of Barnet, specialising in Primary and Early Years. Within my position I supported schools in developing ICT plans and vision, providing In-service training for all school staff centrally and within schools. In service training included model animation, storytelling and ICT, Interactive whiteboards, ICT assessment and an ICT framework designed especially for Barnet.
Other areas include supporting individual children with special needs which is a personal interest to provide support and advice when choosing the right technology and approaches to help children. I have been involved in designing an Online Safety scheme of work and Online safety policies and agreements for all London schools through being on the committee at London Grid for Learning. I trained as a Ceop Ambassador, providing staff and parents of Primary schools with Online Safety talks.
Later through redundancy I became self employed as a ICT Consultant. Within this role I have worked right across London in many Primary schools. Also I am a Barefoot Ambassador which is sponsored by BT. This work involves running training for teachers on Computational Thinking and Coding, as part of the Computer Curriculum.
Liz Fish – Associate Governor
I’m Liz Fish, Associate Governor. I have been involved with West Grove since 2009 when my son started here in the reception class followed a year later by my daughter starting nursery.
I have enjoyed being a part of the Friends of West Grove and then a Parent Governor, Vice Chair and Chair of Governors. I am passionate about providing a robust education for all and supporting the growth of all our wonderful children and families. I work locally in retail and also run fully funded upcycling workshops in schools teaching our young people how to campaign for what they believe in.
I have a background in science and business development with my key strength being working collaboratively and encouraging team members to reach their full potential.
