Year 1

Welcome to the year 1 page. Please use the links below to see all information relevant to your child’s year ahead. If you have any questions please do speak to a member of the year 1 team or drop by the school office.

Welcome to year 1. Children will have PE on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays so please ensure they have their kit in school on these days. Children are dropped off and picked up from the classroom door. Home learning is set on J2 every Friday and children are expected to read every day at home.

The Phonics Screening Check is a test for children in Year 1. Children take it during June in a one-to-one setting with a teacher. This check tests their skills at word reading. During the Phonics Screening Check, children are asked to read (decode) 40 words. Most of these words are real words but some are pseudo-words, also known as alien words.

Home learning is given every Friday in the home learning book. Children have a week to complete their home learning and teachers will check and reward children in class. Please encourage your child to complete their home learning on time and celebrate their achievements with them.
