Year 6 Overview

Welcome to year 6. Children will have PE on Mondays and Tuesdays so please ensure they have their kit in school on both days. Children are dropped off and picked up from the main playground where they line up on the pitch. Home learning is set on J2 every Friday and children are expected to read every day at home.

Year 6 Secondary Transfer

Applications for secondary school must be made online by  31st October 2023. Applications are made through Enfield eAdmissions. Below are links to the eAdmissions website and other useful documents to support you in making the application. We are holding an information session for Year 6 families on Thursday 5th October at 3.30pm.

Year 6 Residential

In the autumn term Year 6 go on a three night residential trip to PGL Windmill Hill activity Centre. This trip is a crucial opportunity for the children to develop their bond as a year group and enjoy a wonderful weekend together in their final year at West Grove.

The residential provides the children with the opportunity to try out a range of outdoor activities such as abseiling, archery, fencing and orienteering. The selection will be confirmed closer to the time but all the activities enable the children to develop teamwork, physical confidence, social skills and independence.

The Year 6 Curriculum

In year 6 children take the Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) in English grammar, punctuation and spelling, English reading and mathematics. There is no test for English writing or science, this will be reported as a teacher assessment judgement.

Year 6 Home Learning

Home learning is set every Friday with a timetable on J2Launch. Children complete the work online and in their home learning book. Children have a week to complete their home learning and teachers will check and reward children in class. Please encourage your child to complete their home learning on time and celebrate their achievements with them.
